What Is Delta 8 CBD?
With the increased interest in Delta 8 in the CBD arena, many are asking the misguided question of what is Delta 8 CBD.
Actually, Delta 8 is not CBD but TCH.
You might have heard of CBD and THC but did you know that there are different versions of THC? There exist different extracts from the Hemp plant which include CBD and THC.
Just like CBD has CBG, THC has Delta-9 THC and Delta THC (8).
What is Delta 8?
Delta THC (8) is one of the 100+ cannabinoids in hemp. Processors extract and do their processes to concentrate it since it only exists naturally in small percentages within the flowers.
Like other cannabinoids, it interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system to bring on its psychotropic effects.
So keeping in mind the difference in the natural quantities of Delta THC (8) in hemp; but when concentrated it interacts with the nervous system similar to Delta-9 THC.
The big difference between Delta-8 THC and Delta-9 THC is in the chemistry. The location of the double bond is the 8th carbon atom in Delta-8 THC, and the location of the double bond is the 9th carbon atom in Delta-9 THC.
This causes the THC to react differently with the endocannabinoid system. These small differences make a big difference in the way we react to Delta THC (8).
CBD stands for “cannabidiol”; which is the second-most abundant Cannabinoid molecule naturally occurring in the cannabis or hemp plant.
The most abundant molecule in the cannabis or hemp plant is of course THC. This is the psychoactive chemical that makes users feel “high” which CBD does not do.
The most popular way of taking CBD is through CBD Tinctures. You are able to take CBD Oil sublingual which means you add it under your tongue then swallow.
Other popular methods include using CBD Topicals which are lotions, balms, and creams. Also, you are able to smoke or vape certain types of CBD.
You will only want to vape or smoke certain types of CBD which would be labeled specifically for that use.
The Differences Between CBD and Delta 8 THC
Delta 8 THC
It is psychoactive (can give you a head change)
It binds CB1 Receptors
High probability that it will show up on a drug test.
Low or undetectable amounts of CBD
Euphoric head change
It is non-psychoactive (doesn’t get you high)
It lightly binds CBD1 receptors
High probability of not showing up on a drug test
Low or undetectable amounts of THC
Everyone reacts differently to it.
Although Delta 8 THC and CBD are two completely different products, there are some similarities. For starters, they are both Hemp-derived – they come from the Hemp plant.
Also, they have less than 0.03% of Delta 9 THC which classifies it as Hemp and no Marijuana. Delta 8 THC can get you high but it’s a different type of high when compared to Marijuana due to its chemical structure.
This is CBD Flower that has been infused with a Delta 8 THC distillate; which gives you the ability to smoke Delta 8 THC in a flower form.
What’s great about both products is that there are different types of strains available. This includes Indica, Sativa, and Hybrids.
When combined with Terpenes, they make for a different experience based on the different products.
